Provides emergency and response preparedness and homeland security planning.

Coordinates and facilitates emergency management activities for the Cities of Cathlamet, Skamokawa, Grays River, Rosburg, and Naselle, and for all unincorporated areas of Wahkiakum County. Also works with the Washington State Emergency Management Division (EMD) and the State of Homeland Security Region 4, which includes Cowlitz, Clark, Skamania, and Wahkiakum Counties.

Coordinators present educational programs regarding individual 72-hour preparedness plans (including composition of car-packs and house-packs).  Also assist in company planning for facility disaster preparedness, i.e. evacuation plans, safety precautions for on-site toxic chemicals or other hazardous materials, situations, etc.  Free brochures given upon request when available.

The goal of Mason DEM is to strengthen the County’s ability to readily, effectively, and efficiently mitigate against, prepare for, respond to, and recover from all types of natural and man-made emergencies/disasters, including but not limited to earthquakes, windstorms, floods, wildland fires, acts of terrorism, and man-made/technological hazards. Provides emergency management activities that are divided into four phases; mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery. Assists with the following: - Activities in the Mitigation Phase work to "eliminate or reduce the chance of occurrence or the effects of a disaster" - The Planning Phase addresses how we will respond to a disaster in our community - The Response Phase is the time spent immediately after an incident occurs that we are providing direct assistance to the community - The Recovery Phase runs from the end of the Response Phase until activities are back to normal

During disasters, operates an Emergency Operations Center where officials from many disciplines come together to coordinate and direct activities, which may help save lives and protect property. Serves Grandview, Granger, Harrah, Mabton, Moxee, Naches, Selah, Sunnyside, Tieton, Toppenish, Union Gap, Wapato, Yakima, Yakima County and Zillah.

Benton County Emergency Management (BCEM) is a division of Benton County Emergency Services. BCEM works to minimize the impact of disasters on the people, property, economy, and environment of Benton County through comprehensive disaster planning, preparedness education, training, and resource coordination. BCEM prepares for and responds to both natural and man-made disasters. Natural hazards in our area include floods, wildfires, and ice storms. BCEM planners also prepare for emergencies at the Hanford Nuclear Site and Energy Northwest's Columbia Generating Station.

Helps the San Juan Islands prepare for, respond to, and recover from disaster and large scale emergencies of all kinds. During emergency or disaster events, activates and coordinates staffing of the County Emergency Operations Center to assist in managing response activities, allocating resources, and facilitating recovery efforts.
