Basic Food Employment & Training (BFET) Program assists recipients of federal Basic Food Assistance by providing funding for vocational education programs, GED, high school completion, or English as a Second Language classes to increase their opportunities for employment. May receive funding for tuition, fees and textbooks. DSHS approval needed before funding can be awarded. WorkFirst Assists recipients of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) cash assistance from DSHS who need training in order to enter the workforce. WorkFirst funding typically covers tuition, required books and fees for the career training programs that are one year in length or shorter, as well as GED or High School completion. Worker Retraining Provides funding for laid-off and dislocated workers as well as vulnerable workers who need training in order to return to the workforce. Vulnerable workers are employed in an occupation that is not in demand, do not have a previous degree or certificate or need to learn new skills in order to keep their job. Training options include career training programs (certificates and AAS degrees), GED, high school completion, and English as a Second Language classes. Opportunity Grant Provides education grants for low-income students who have not yet earned a degree and are studying an eligible program.   Enroll in an approved pathway of study: Aviation, business, education, healthcare, natural resources or welding. Household income must be below 200 percent of the Federal Poverty Level. Provides up to 45 credits of tuition and $1000 per academic year for books.

Helps individuals prepare and enter the workforce by tailoring to their needs, interests, and skills. Tries to match each individual with the right employer. The Resource Access Team is a multifunctional customer service team within the Department of Community and Human Services that will serve as a centralized information and resource referral system, making it easier for residents of King County to access the services they need. The Resource Access Team aims to help residents connect to resources, navigate services, or bridge short-term financial gaps. The Resource Access Team may provide financial assistance to King County residents to help them gain or retain employment, support educational goals leading to employment, or meet basic needs, including but not limited to food, healthcare, shelter, childcare, transportation and safety. Resource Access Financial Assistance is intended for emergent or one-time situations and not intended for recurrent or regular needs. The Resource Access Team does not provide rental assistance.

This program helps workers who have lost their jobs (due to a Reduction In Force (RIF), layoff or closure) to re-enter the workforce through services such as: Professional assistance with job search; Financial assistance for out of area job interviews; Financial assistance for out of area relocation expenses for a new job; Opportunities to build new skills through training which can include, On-the-Job Training or Apprenticeships.

Worker Retraining: Provides options for unemployed or underemployed workers to access education and training to maintain employment or to re-enter the workforce. Students may be eligible to receive unemployment benefits while attending school and not participate in job search activities if the training meets criteria. Offers assistance with tuition and books for one quarter. Funding for subsequent quarters depends on availability of funds. Must be eligible for unemployment or exhausted unemployment within the past 48 months or be a displaced homemaker, or a military veteran discharged within the past 48 months.
