The municipal court is a court of limited jurisdiction.   The municipal court judge is authorized by Washington state statute to preside over the following types of cases:   - Non-traffic infractions - Traffic infractions - Criminal misdemeanors   - Gross misdemeanors - Domestic Violence Moral Recognition Therapy - Resource Closet (resources available to everyone) The court schedules arraignments, pre-trial hearings, non-jury and jury trials, sentencing, reviews, etc.   The court supervises related services including legal representation for indigent persons, probation and interpreter services.

Court investigation involves interviewing defendants, acquiring violation records, verifying references, arranging for clinical evaluations, and preparing reports for judges.  Probation officers confer with offenders and formulate self-improvement plans. Sentence monitoring determines compliance with court orders.

Supervises and monitors all adult felony offenders that are placed on community supervision by the state's Superior Courts, placed on post-release supervision from a state correctional institution, or transferred from another state under the Interstate Compact Agreement.  General individual counseling is available to offenders for personal and practical matters.  Clients are referred to mental health counseling or sexual deviation counseling.  Provides limited assistance finding housing, employment or vocational training.  Encourages offenders to independently utilize community resources.

Provides adult probation services for the Lewis County District Court.

Seattle Municipal Court Probation Services works with individuals sentenced to probation following conviction or other disposition of misdemeanor offenses, including domestic violence, theft, trespassing, assault, and DUI. The department monitors compliance with court-ordered conditions and supports individuals in meeting requirements such as mental health and substance use disorder treatment, monitoring conditions and reporting obligations, while providing timely compliance information to the Court. Probation Services also supports specialized and therapeutic court programs (Mental Health Court, Veteran’s Treatment Court, Domestic Violence Intervention Project), and coordinates with community service providers. Through this work, the department supports individuals’ on-going stability and successful completion of probation.

District Court Probation department promotes community safety through the use of evidence-based practices and appropriate interventions while working with offenders to encourage changes in social behavior and to reduce recidivism.

This is the office that provides probation, detention, diagnostic evaluation, diversion, guardian ad litems, outpatient drug and alcohol treatments, prevention services for at-risk youth and truancy services for youth and families who have been ordered into services by the court.

Ensures the safety of the community and the well-being of the youths under Juvenile department care. Holds juvenile offenders accountable to victims and communities, and assist youths in developing competency and character to aid them in becoming successful members of society.

Responsible for providing juvenile detention, probation, and court services. All criminal cases involving children who are at least eight and not yet 18 years of age are referred to the Juvenile Center to be screened and scheduled for court hearings or diversion. Youth may be brought to detention by law enforcement when arrested for a crime or on a warrant. Each juvenile offender is assigned a probation counselor who works with the youth and their family to make sure that court orders are followed and to provide treatment and other services designed to reduce recidivism. The court does not hear small claims cases, change names, or issue passports or marriage licenses. Offers a relicensing program.   Contracts with the Dispute Resolution Center of King County to allow low-cost mediations to take place at the courthouse.
